Residential Eviction Restrictions Extended for a Further 6 Weeks in England

February 22, 2021

Category: News

With the national lockdown restrictions still ongoing, Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has extended the ban on residential bailiff evictions in England from 21st February to 31st March 2021.

The exemptions for circumstances where evictions can still go ahead are expected to stay in place, however, we are still waiting for further guidance. Previous exemptions included:

  • Fraud
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Illegal occupation
  • Domestic abuse
  • Property being unoccupied following the death of a tenant
  • Arrears of 6 months' rent or more

Landlords are also required to give 6-month notice periods to tenants before starting possession proceedings, meaning those now served notice can stay in properties until at least August 2021.

Andrew Wilson & Co. are still undertaking property eviction services for cases that meet the required conditions for an exemption. If you require property eviction services, please get in touch with our property team:
